Norwalk Mad Bulls Crown 5 Winners In Beginners Wrestling Meet

NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Mad Bull wrestling team was put to the test this past weekend in three different events throughout the state with some outstanding results as the beginner squad saw action in Thomaston on Saturday.

Norwalk crowned five champions: Drew Falla, Nick Fatone, Phoenix Gardella, Will Motley and Ryan Schneider.

“We took 11 beginner boys in total along with five of our up and coming future stars of our girls’ team” program director Randy Haus said. “The kids got some much needed experience and fared very well against other clubs here in Connecticut. We as a team are very pleased with the results and effort put forth by the newbie kids. The future looks very bright for all of the kids that competed today.”  

Additionally, outstanding performances were logged in by newcomers James Motley, Marianna Hernandez, Johnny Bova, Anthony Marini, J.T. Schneider, Rylee Donohue, Mike Marini, Hailey Mikell, Madison Marini with veterans Calli Gilchrist and Damari Maxam contributing to the medal count for the young Mad Bull beginners.

On Saturday night , the Mad Bull squad competed in a quad match with Stamford, Fairfield and Bristol Connecticut at Chelsea Piers, which proved to be quite an experience for the team.

“We saw some great match-ups with their best versus our best and beginner versus beginner, all night long it was one nail biting match after another, the kids got some much need work and got a chance to wrestle at Chelsea Piers, which was a fantastic venue for all that attended,” head coach Art Schad said.

On Sunday and on short rest, the team took 60 kids in all to compete in Wilton, crowning 19 champions and taking home a host of medals.

Sixth-graders Nemo Harris and Koy Price remained undefeated in tournament action this year and veterans Jeff Cocchia, Sam White, Artie Cocchia, Mikey Bartush, Jack Cahill, Jaylen Carter, Nick Augeri, Noah Fraas, Jacob Gonzales, Zavier Hernandez, Jason Singer, Nicky Singer, Dean Tsiranides, James Wise, Colin Falla all medaled in Wilton tournament.

Other medal winners were newcomers Carlo Tucci, Phoenix Gardella, Will Motley, James Motley, Justin Gierum, Asiah Baez, Tylor Baez, Holden Zerega, Connor Gilchrist, Terry Brannigan, Eamon Brannigan, Aiden Donohoe, Mikhail Moss, Teejay Lopez, Ryan Monti, Quincy Carter, Nick Fatone, Elijah Murphy, Ryan Trani,  Brandan Gilchrist, Dragonfly Robertson Russo, Doug Cahill, Quinn Robertson Russo, Ryan Gilchrist, Seamus Brannigan Jack Edwards, Anthony Marini and Mike Marini.
